Pre K Ballet / Tap

Students learn basic beginner ballet technique and an understanding of tap rhythms. They will gain and increase coordination, balance, rhythm, strength and agility.

Acro
Learn the basics or work on advancing your skills in this flexible Acro class! Acro is not the typical tumbling or gymnastics class. Our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, teaching such skills as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks, all each student's individual level of experience. And it's fun, too!

Rhythmic Dance
Our Rhythmic Dance is offered for beginner dancers. The kids are introduced to work with ropes, balls, hoops and clubs. They also learn ballet and musicality. We can offer you child a gentle, educational and skilled introduction to Rhythmic Dance.

Stretching & Conditioning

Stretching and body conditioning with an emphasis on a dancer's body and what dancer's need to perform and to prevent injury. Stretching releases muscular tension, increases the temperature of the muscles to make them more fluid and flexible, releases toxins from the muscles, gives greater elasticity to the muscles and joints, and improves strength by increasing the mechanical advantage you can generate with the limbs.  Stretching can prevent injury and assist in the rehabilitation after an injury.  Stretching may also just feel good and be an intuitive method to increase focus and concentration for dance.  It can teach you a lot about joint and muscle function.  All elements of condition, alignment, balance, flexibility, strengthening, and cardiorespiratory endurance are interrelated.  


Ballet I Level I dancers will begin class with floor stretches specific to developing strength in their feet. Dancers will then go to the ballet barre and learn basic steps and positions, which will be combined to create simple combinations. They will be taught about maintaining correct posture, which in ballet, involves everything from the feet up through the top of the head. After leaving the barre, dancers will continue stretching, working the hamstrings, calves, quadriceps, and back muscles. They will learn the names of the steps and what they mean in the French language. Dancers will attempt new jumps and execute them with more repetition.

Ballet II
 Level II dancers will begin class with stretches in the center specific to strengthening the feet. They will then go to the ballet barre to work on basic technique, as well as, learn more detailed combinations, involving port de bras (use of upper body, head, and arms). Dancers will be encouraged to count the music and name the steps. They will begin learning about turnout and correct body placement. They will expand their repertoire of jumps in simple form at the barre. Center work will consist of combining three or more steps and dancers will work to improve their turns through spotting and proper use of the arms. Corner work will combine two or more steps which travel across the floor. They will learn the names of important muscles used in ballet and be given literature on anatomy for dancers. Class time will be spent learning basic floor barre technique and stretching specific to the hamstrings, quadriceps, calves, and back muscles. For the last few minutes of each class, dancers will have an opportunity to use pantomime and ballet combinations to act out different excerpts from classical ballets. As dancers progress from Beginning to Intermediate to Advanced, the time spent at the barre is longer and more focus is placed on body placement and ballet terminology.

Ballet III
Level III - Advanced: Dancers at this level will start class at the ballet barre to work on classical technique, executing combinations at different musical tempos and on different musical counts. They will build strength and learn how to put several steps together while smoothly transferring their weight and holding correct posture and body placement. Focus will be on building core strength. They will also add new steps to their repertoire, moving beyond the Intermediate Level. Center work will consist of an adagio, a tendu combination, jumps – including petit allegro and batterie, and pirouette preparations and turns. Dancers will begin to work on attitude positions, as well as, develop their grande rond de jambe and rond de jambe en l’air. Corner work will consist of jump, waltz, and various traveling combinations, including grande allegro, kept in time to the music. These combinations may exceed 2 eight counts of movement. Dancers will learn basic kinesiology and stage placement. They will be given literature on anatomy for dancers. Advanced Level III dancers must have at least four years experience, take at least one other ballet class a week, and have the instructor’s permission to register for the class. Class is recommended for dancers ages 11 and up.

Ballet IV Pointe

Classes are for the advanced ballet student. Only those who have a strong mastery of pointe work and a desire to pursue ballet seriously should attend. This class will pay attention to fine details, use of the upper body, breath of movement and expression as well as an increasingly advanced repertory of steps. Dancers at this level have been dancing at least three times a week for three or more years and have proven themselves through hard work and a dedication to ballet. They will further increase the repertoire of steps, combinations, and turns. Many combinations (grande allegro) will be 4 eight counts or more in length. The stamina required for this level takes a true love of ballet. 


Modern III

These classes are for dancers who like physical complicated floor work, patterns of movement and self-expression. Elements of improvisation are also introduced. Designed for experienced dancers, refining and articulating modern dance principals.

Contemporary theatrical and concert dance with a special technique for developing the use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas.


Jazz I

This fun class is designed to introduce students to jazz. Learning basic skills, while improving their flexibility, sense of rhythm and overall coordination.


 

Jazz II

 Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.

 This class will focus on learning proper jazz technique such as isolations of the body, improving energy and endurance as well as developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz and includes a warm-up, stretches, isolations, floor work, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.

Intermediate jazz students will exploring new techniques, rhythm patterns, and movement vocabularies.


Jazz III

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.

 This class will focus on learning proper jazz technique such as isolations of the body, improving energy and endurance as well as developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz

Advanced jazz students will be expected to take risks exploring their own unique styles, as well as master the technique, speed of the movements, musicality, and flexibility. Combinations will become increasingly more complex and intricate.  


Hip-Hop II

Hip Hop dancing encompasses many different street styles, all offering a great way of working out the body through fun and rhythmic exercise. Our teacher described his class as an exploration of paced but grounded movements. His classes are a combination of conditioning, rhythm and self expression. 


Tap I

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.


 

Tap II
